Tejinder (Men’s Shot Put) won the first medal in Athletics at Jakarta Games. He was in superb perform throughout finals to get his first gold medal at Asian games.
He stated the finals by throwing a distance of 19.96m in his first attempt to be placed first. Tejinder maintained his lead before launching shotput to a distance of 20.75m in fourth attempt. This throw broke both Asian Games record and Indian National record. Earlier national record was held by Om Prakash with a throw of 20.69.
Indian finished finals on a high note by throwing 20.50 in his last attempt and bag gold medal for India. In fact, he lead finals of shot put competition from start to finish which shows the amount of hard work put in for this games. Tejinder displayed great character and hunger to win at this level. Indian was able to throw his best throw under pressure to prove that he has the mental strength to perform at high-level competitions.
