Affiliation and standing
The Association is affiliated to the Athletics Federation of India,
the national governing body, and works with the Sports Authority of Maharashtra
and the Maharashtra Olympic Association. It is registered under the Societies
Registration Act, registration F-602 (Poona).
How it is governed
The Association is governed by an Executive Committee
elected at the Annual General Meeting, and by the office bearers
it elects, supported by sub-committees
covering technical matters, selection, competition, anti-doping and medical cover,
coaching and development, finance, and grievances.
Membership
Membership is institutional: the District Associations are the members. Athletes,
coaches and officials hold registration with the Association through their
district, not direct membership. The affiliation procedure
sets out how a district body applies and renews.
Frequently asked
Who can affiliate with MAA?
Affiliation is open to district athletics associations recognised in their district and constituted under the Societies Registration Act. One unit is recognised per district. Applications are placed before the Executive Committee and, if approved, ratified at the Annual General Meeting.
How are entries to state championships submitted?
Entries are accepted from affiliated District Associations only. Individual athletes must route entries through their district unit, which submits a consolidated entry form together with age verification documents by the date stated in the championship circular.
How is age eligibility verified?
Age verification follows the AFI circular in force for the season. District associations are responsible for verifying documents before submitting entries; the Technical Committee may call for original documents at any competition.
How are state records ratified?
A performance is recognised as a state record only when set in MAA or AFI-sanctioned competition, with certified officials and equipment, and after review by the Technical Committee. Wind readings are required for record purposes in the relevant events.
How can a competition be sanctioned by MAA?
Road races, marathons and open meets seeking MAA sanction must apply through the district association at least 90 days in advance, with the course certificate, medical plan and technical officials list.
